Herrington charges to podium finish at Talladega; tightens points chase with HTF
Traveling to Alabama for the tour's penultimate weekend, Wil Herrington and the JCM Motorsports team unloaded at Talladega Short Track (Eastaboga, Ala.) on Friday evening for the Jerry Goodwin Challenge with the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series.
With 42 Late Models signed in for the first night of the doubleheader, Herrington suffered mechanical issues during his qualifying lap which forced the team to pull out the backup car. Moving forward in his heat race, Wil finally secured a spot in the 38-lap feature after nabbing the final transfer spot in his B-Main. Needing a strong outing to remain in the points chase, Herrington rallied from his 21st-place starting position and stormed to a podium finish in third. In the $5,038-to-win feature, Wil trailed Ashton Winger and Tyler Millwood while Ethan Dotson and Sam Seawright completed the Top-5.
Looking for another strong run on Saturday, Herrington started the $9,700-to-win Red Farmer Tribute from the ninth-position and wound up 11th when the checkered flag flew.
Wil now sits only 30 points back of points leader Joseph Joiner.
The JCM Motorsports crew will finish out the series at Swainsboro (Ga.) Raceway this coming weekend.
